Today’s walk featured multiple burn areas and not much to see, or maybe I just wasn’t appreciating what was there. For the first time on the PCT, I popped in my headphones and listened to an audiobook while walking. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to renew East of Eden in time and someone else borrowed it, so I’ve temporarily switched to Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. Having a distraction gets me into automaton hiking mode and I walk faster.
I collected water at Beardog Spring, which gets an A++ for its name. Butterflies hereabouts will sometimes sit on sweaty skin or gear and probe and several manic ones were whizzing around as if they wanted to land on me but were afraid to. I tried a Snickers bar, popular hiking food. It was good! I hadn’t eaten one since I was a kid. Delicious delicious calories.
I’m camping on a saddle, but there aren’t many views. Goodnight moon.
