Pacific Crest Trail

“The Pacific Crest Trail spans 2,650 miles (4,265 kilometers) from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon, and Washington. It is a National Scenic Trail. It reveals the beauty of the desert, unfolds the glaciated expanses of the Sierra Nevada, travels deep forests, and provides commanding vistas of volcanic peaks in the Cascade Range. The trail symbolizes everything there is to love — and protect — in the Western United States.”

I started dreaming about the Pacific Crest Trail after finishing my first long hike, the Arizona Trail, in 2013. Doing isn’t as simple as dreaming, however – due to injuries and a detour to the Heysen, I didn’t set foot in California until 2018, when yet another injury foiled my dreams to start at the southern terminus. I jumped north, LASHing the second half of the trail (~1250 miles, ~2000 kilometres) from Burney to Canada, and returned in 2019 to LASH the first quarter (~700 miles, 1126 km) from Mexico to Kennedy Meadows. (Confused by the word LASH? Check out the FAQ.)

Life continues, long-distance plans are disrupted and my schedule for completing my third and final LASH is always shifting, but I look forward to returning to the PCT again! For now, check out my journals below.
