John and his wife Gwen are wonderful hosts. I woke up this morning prepared to eat the Weird Cereal (backstory: food I don’t like gets placed into a baggie, where it compiles. It was time to eat it), but then Gwen came into the kitchen and made me eggs and an English muffin. Weird Cereal begone! John drove me to the grocery store and post office and to cache water at the established Freeman Road AZT cache. I hadn’t been planning to cache any water along the AZT, due to logistics (having no vehicle) but I’m glad to have it there.
We met Gwen for lunch and visited the visitor centre. The visitor centre doesn’t get many visitors, so stop by if you’re in Oracle. The day ended with a delicious supper made by Gwen and her and John’s refusal to accept any money for my stay. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
Leaving tomorrow to get back on the trail. My ankle felt better today, but I haven’t tested it with my pack yet. I’m afraid that it will be like when you have a seemingly innocuous package of meat that when opened is teeming with bloated maggots. Or a less disgusting simile. Answers change if you don’t know what they are, right? No?
