I took a zero in Kearny today, planning out my food requirements for the next few weeks. Before this hike I thoroughly researched gear, but food was a mysterious beast… in normal life I don’t eat snacks or pasta/rice sides so I didn’t know what I would like (I could have tried some out, but that would have taken the fun out of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with food I hate). I also didn’t know how much food I would require, or how often I would want to cook in the backcountry, or even whether I would want to cook at all, so eating while backpacking is still a learning experience for me. I bought some Kellogg bars yesterday and just saw that they have ‘BHT (for freshness)’ in them. When a company feels the need to justify why an ingredient is in their product, that’s when you know it’s bad. Can my bars be less fresh please?
I bought a pizza for lunch, supper and tomorrow’s breakfast.
