The Heysen 27: Resting + Nervous

Tuesday, September 27, 2016

Rest day in Melrose. I picked up my resupply package at the PO, played cricket and footy with a family who fed me homemade bread and baked beans with tomato sauce, read a book from the campground’s offerings, and chatted nervously with people about the weather. All of the caravanners from the unpowered sites are leaving before the storm, since the creek is already running over the access road and may rise enough to prohibit passage. A dodgy heritage footbridge is available for pedestrians, so I guess I’m good. *nervous laughter*

I’m confused.

Things to know: The store had no gas canisters, but prices on the whole looked reasonable. The post office closes for lunchtime and reopens at 2:00 PM. I went to the Council office to retrospectively pay the fee for camping at Stony Creek (as listed on the Friends’ website), but the employee said she didn’t think there is one. All the better for Pockets.
