Thursday, July 12, 2018 – 15.40 miles
I was running too low on water to have my muesli and milk this morning, so before breakfast I walked the remaining mile (or whatever) to Thielsen Creek, where I filtered water and cooked potatoes. Nice views of Mt. Thielsen.
I passed the high point of the PCT (not including the Rim Walk alternate) in Oregon and Washington today! I’m not sure the exclamation mark is deserved, since the high point was meadowy and view-poor, but it had a sign.
I found a patch of shade nearby for eating lunch. I was joined there by a hiker who probably told me his trail name, but I can’t remember it. He wasn’t having fun times and declared adamantly that the PCT would be better walked in sections, but still he intended to finish his thru-hike minus a section in the Sierra Nevada that he had skipped. When you’ve walked so far already, it must be hard to make the decision to stop even when you’re not enjoying what you’re doing.
I camped somewhere before Six Horse Spring.
