Gaze in admiration at the beautiful blue sky in this parking lot photo of questionable scenic merit! Seeing distant objects is a wonderful thing!
That’s the view I woke up to this morning. How bizarre that after weeks of haze, the smoke vanished one day before I was about to leave the trail. I’m not sure how long the good visibility will last, but for now I’ll keep hiking and hoping for rain and friendly winds.
Today was a zero though. I bought a pizza and Snickers bars appropriately labelled ‘Fumbly’ and picked up my packages at the front desk of the hotel (my resupply box mailed from Bend and N95 masks ordered from Amazon). Package storage at the Summit Inn is free if you’re a guest, $15 otherwise. Another option is sending packages to the Chevron, but there have been instances of packages being stolen there – apparently it’s another situation where packages are stored in a pile and you grab them yourself.
Unfortunately, next Monday is Labour Day (I can say ‘unfortunately’ because I’m on vacation) and I won’t be able to get to Stevens Pass/Skykomish to pick up my resupply package before the long weekend. Therefore I’ve decided to slow down and take seven days for this next section, arriving at Stevens Pass on Monday and hitching into Skykomish when the post office opens on Tuesday.
