Someone asked me the other day whether I’m excited for my trip or whether I’m worried that my foot won’t be ready. For sure I’m worried! I’m doing my best to abide by the wisdom of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Don’t panic) but a towel isn’t helping, nor are the limitless resources of the Internet (amazing how many hours you can spend learning nothing useful about sprained feet).
I’ve been dabbling in PCT planning when not searching for cyborgism experiments. Supposedly Verizon provides the best cellphone coverage for the PCT, but Verizon isn’t compatible with my phone, so I browsed around and found a company called Red Pocket that uses the AT&T network and has a monthly plan of 500 minutes/500 text messages/500 MB data for only 10 USD (12 USD sans automatic payments). It looks like finding the proper sim card in a store could be tricky, so I’m going to see if I can have one mailed to the place I’m staying in LA.
[A note from 2019: I ended up choosing Cricket, which also uses the AT&T network. When my Cricket refill card ran out, I tried to renew my prepaid plan online, but Cricket’s website required a zip code and wouldn’t accept a Canadian credit card. I tried phoning Cricket, but their automated system provided no option to talk to a human being. Would not recommend to non-Americans.]
