The Arizona Trail Day 36: I’ll Get There

Monday, April 22, 2013

This morning I discovered that my phone charger cord had stopped working. Annoying, but I was lucky to be somewhere I could purchase a new one. The motel employee who had sent me to the improper room gave me a ride to the Apple store. I asked her about living in Arizona and she disclosed that she would like to move elsewhere and make a living as a writer. From the Apple store, I walked to the post office to mail my hiking shoes to my parents. An early Mother’s Day present! She’ll be thrilled! On the way, I was stopped by a man who was clearly experiencing traveller deprivation, because he got excited at the sight of my backpack and wanted to have a spontaneous stranger conversation all about travelling. I told him that I’m hiking the Arizona Trail and he nodded, but eventually I began to suspect that he didn’t know what it is. No matter, the conversation was still interesting.

Guy picked me up in the late afternoon and drove me back to Superior, where I reunited with the nice inn manager. He pointed out that I didn’t seem to have made any progress towards getting to Utah. Hey, I’ll get there!
