I’ve been having a ‘the dress’ issue with my pants. I own two pairs of identical pants, one light brown and one grey, and chose the brown ones for this hike, but with the dirt and sunscreen they sometimes look grey – for one day I was actually convinced that I had worn the grey ones for mistake. When I woke up this morning though, they were glowing brown in the morning light, newly laundered and smelling fresh-ish (I keep my expectations low).
I took another zero today for pure relaxation. In the morning I had a delicious but huge breakfast at the Red Kettle (impossible that a non-hiker could require so much) and in the evening I had an amazing chile relleno platter at Los Gorditos (again impossible that a non-hiker could require so much). Apparently businesses in Idyllwild are suffering because of the highway closures and some restaurants have reduced their hours, so it was nice to able to support them by stuffing my face.
At the library, I added a few entries in this journal and began a book that I was unable to finish before closing time. A nice day.
Black Mountain Road tomorrow.
