Pacific Crest Trail (2019) Pre-Hike 5: Tar Pits!

Wednesday, March 13, 2019

I took a break from preparing resupply boxes today to visit the La Brea Tar Pits, which I’ve wanted to see ever since first researching touristy things one might do at the PCT’s endpoints. Look at this tragic scene:

Yes, your parent mammoth is trapped forever. Why do we need movies when we could just stare at poignant statuary all day?

Walking around the park to look at the pits, including an excavation in progress, is free. There’s also a museum ($), which showcases fossils excavated from the bitumen.

How much do I have to pay to own all these dire wolf skulls? 200x my life savings, you say? Never mind then, I guess.

The pits were surrounded by fencing, but I also saw a miniature seep marked by a cone.

Diligently ensuring that every step is watched.

I feel so fulfilled now as a human being.
