I walked the remaining distance to Walker Pass this morning and quickly caught a ride to Lake Isabella with a fisherman. Of course I headed straight to a restaurant for breakfast, marveling at the lightness of my pack with zero food in it, and then walked to the Vons to resupply.
I’m staying at the Haven RV park ($15). It’s on the outskirts of town, but it’s a nice place with a hiker box, laundry, showers and an indoors sitting area with a charging station. I’ll stay here for one night and head out tomorrow. I’ve read that hitching out of town is difficult, but a bus runs from Lake Isabella to Walker Pass on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
I was alone at the RV park until Boston Chris arrived in the evening. Because of the heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada, he’s planning to leave the PCT at Walker Pass and hike the Oregon Coast Trail. The OCT seems like a popular choice for postponing the snow, but he’s done it before and only semi-recommended it due to road walking.
When I mentioned the dogs in Neenach, he said they’ve been chasing hikers for years!
